Gone are the days of choosing between two brands of baseball bats. There are now eight main brands of baseball bats and several others too.

I think the economy thrives when there are competing brands. It’s very good for the company and for the consumer.

The more there is to choose from the better now too because there are all different types of players who have different needs.

What I mean by that is that a leadoff hitter might not want the same type of bat that a cleanup hitter does.

Easton has really taken the bull by the horns by creating bats designed for power and for speed. I’ve never seen a bat company do this before but they are cutting edge and considered the leader in bats.

After Easton you have top bats like DeMarini and Marucci. There are classic brands like Louisville Slugger and Worth. The top eight is rounded off with Miken and Combat.

With all these brands to choose from and so many different types how do you decide which bat is right for you?

First decide which bat is legal for your league or age group.

• There are adult bats which can be considered high school and college. These are also referred to as BBCOR bats.
• There are coach pitch and t-ball bats for the youngsters.
• Junior big barrel bats for any league which recognizes USSSA baseball.
• Wood bats for any league which allows it or I’ve also seen players use wood bats for batting practice.
• Finally, there are youth bats for Little League and youth big barrel bats for Senior League baseball.

The next thing I would do is have a budget in mind for how much you can spend. After that there are some very important factors such as:

• What are your height, weight, skill, and strength levels?
• Which bat length, weight and barrel diameter is best for you?
• Which bat feels the most comfortable in your hands and when you swing?
• Do you want wood, composite or aluminum?

There are weight and height charts available but I’ll give you a few recommendations. A player 4’1″ to 4’4″ weighing 100-110 pounds is recommended to have a 30″ bat.

Usually a player between the ages of 11 and 12 choose a 30-31″ bat.

Once you have all these factors chosen for your personal needs it’s all about style after that. There are different colors, different graphics, one piece bats and two piece bats just to name a few.

Once you have all these factors decided on your choice of bat will most likely be narrowed down to two or three.

If you are patient you might find one of those bats on sale. Keep your eyes open for those sales online. I’ve been to the stores. You won’t find much selection and you will rarely find a sale. Look for free shipping too.

This process is a fun one and once you follow the tips from above you will find the perfect bat for your baseball season.

This 2012 DeMarini M2M BBCOR baseball bat is made out of their SC4 alloy design for the whole bat including the handle. It’s considered a two-piece bat.

This bat does look mean but it’s not decked out with their normal amazing graphics. My favorite part of the bat is the grip and I’ll tell you more about that later.

The barrel is silver with some black lettering and some red lettering. There is really no other color present and I like that. Sometimes the design of bats can become too complicated.

Again, my favorite part is the grip. It’s black with red underneath and looks really comfortable.

The endcap is black with the DeMarini logo in red.

Printed on the bat is the BBCOR stamp.

Pros:
I think the biggest pro about this bat is that the design is simple and players talk good about it with not many complaints.

It’s funny that I like the grip the best because the first thing many players said was that they liked the grip first and then pop.

Some say it has a massive sweet spot while others say it’s huge. Not much difference to me but I when I played you always looked for big barrel bats.

Cons:
I didn’t hear too many complaints but some players say it’s a little too top heavy. My suggestion is to try it out first and see how it feels.

Other than that it’s also not the best design.

This bat is a little different than many other slow pitch bats because it only comes in one length. However, you have four different weights to choose from. Isn’t that interesting?

I searched around for an explanation on this and couldn’t find anything as of yet. When I find out I’ll put it in this review.

I barely see any baseball bats in the store anymore so you’ll be lucky to find this slow pitch bat either. Your best bet is to find it online.

This 2013 Easton Salvo Comp 98 slow pitch bat is made out of the IMX single system composite design for the whole bat including the handle. It’s considered a one-piece bat.

This isn’t a knock your socks off looking bat but it’s still pretty sharp. I’m personally a big fan of the grip.

The barrel is silver with some black lettering and some orange lettering. There is white, black and orange near the tip of the barrel. All the certification writings are on the barrel and are in black and orange more towards the handle.

The handle area has a neat design to it as well. It’s orange underneath with black over top. My favorite part is just under the grip on the knob of the bat. It’s black with some orange lettering.

The endcap is black with the Easton logo in orange.

Printed on the bat is the USSSA stamp.

Pros:
I think the biggest pro about this bat is all the positive things I’ve read from customers online.

Most people have found success with this bat right out of the wrapper and seem pleased with the bat for a long time. Most people said it has tremendous pop.

They were describing hitting the ball over the fence, hitting the fence or just plain ripping the ball in the gaps. Those are things I like to hear!

Cons:
One person said the bat broke after 400-500 hits and one person didn’t have the out of wrapper experience like so many others.

Other than that it’s also not the hottest design.

Many of the 2012 bats were released in late 2011 but I still wanted to wait a while and do as much research as I could. Many times it takes months to get feedback from player, parents and coaches about a particular bat.

For some of you the deciding factor will be design, others size and maybe some of you prefer a bat to be made from certain materials.

I know you’re here because of your interest in Senior League baseball and I hope I can help you out.

I’m going to give you my current top three and update it should something change. I always keep my eyes and ears open to what players, coaches and dads are saying about baseball bats.

Top Three 2012 Senior League Baseball Bats – The Usual Suspects Plus One

Let’s face it, there are leaders in the baseball bat arena. We have Easton, DeMarini, Louisville Slugger, Rawlings but we also have a newcomer in Marucci.

I had to look at all their bats and come up with three. Here are my top bats for Senior League.

1. Easton SL11S310B – S3 Senior League

   This bat is part of Easton’s Speed Series which is supposed to give you a light swing weights generating more bat speed. This is a -10 length to weight ratio and is a one-piece bat made from THT100™ Scandium Alloy.

   It comes in five different sizes so there is a bat size for everyone. I am really attracted to the design and think this is one of the best looking bats overall in 2012. I only like the design of one bat more than this one and it also happens to be an Easton.

   Player reviews online have said this bat is very light, easy to swing and that the ball travels faster and further while hitting with it.

   It is covered by a 12-month warranty and you can find the best price on Amazon.



2. 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst SL12C

Louisville Slugger actually has two really good 2012 Senior League bats but I think this one is the better bat. The other one is the TPX Omaha. I like this one better mainly because of player and parent comments of it being a really good bat.

This bat comes in five different sizes and you can get the 28 inch bat as light as 17 ounces. That is light!

It’s a one-piece full composite bat made from their C1C composite design which is supposed to create a superior trampoline effect.

Players feel they hit with a lot of power using this bat and one dad said it was the perfect bat for travel ball.

It’s got a huge 2 5/8 inch barrel and I personally like the design which has wings. You can find the best price for this bat on Amazon.



3. Marucci Cat 5 Senior League Bat

   Even though this bat is technically from 2011 it is still their newest Cat 5 Senior League bat and it’s also still one of the hottest and best performing bats. Yes, even over the TPX Omaha.

   It’s a -8 bat, approved for USSSA baseball play and lots of travel team players use this bat.

   It’s not the best looking bat but players love it! Lots of pop and lots of balance is what I’m hearing. Parents are just as happy with this one-piece aluminum design.

   My favorite comment was from several players who said there is literally no sting when you hit the ball. I had some good bats when I played ball and even the top bats had some sting every now and then. Marucci designed this patented anti-vibration knob though and I think it’s helping.

   It’s got the large 2 5/8 inch barrel and even though I found one of these in the store you can still find it cheaper and with free shipping on Amazon.

Why Are These The Top Three 2012 Senior League Baseball Bats?

To be honest with you, I found the best bats which performed well, had good reviews and were good bang for the buck.

Like I said, Louisville had two really good ones so it was hard to narrow it to three. I really didn’t want to have two in the top three which were the same brand either.

If anything changes or a new bat comes out in 2012 I will update you at the bottom of this post.

The whole Easton Speed series is very popular. The Speed series caters to players who want a light bat but still want to hit for power. The barrel isn’t as long as the XL series but it doesn’t matter.

Contact hitters love these bats because they generate enough bat speed to hit for power and so it’s a win-win situation.

The handle area has a neat design to it as well. It’s black.

The endcap is black with the Easton logo in yellow. For once there’s finally a bat with a decent looking endcap!

The knob is black with the company name and length of bat in yellow. The grip is black except for yellow right near the knob.

Pros:
I think a pro for this bat is the fact that it’s an Easton. They’ve always produced good bats and they have a stellar reputation.

I love the fact that this bat is designed for contact hitters who wants tons of bat speed because it gives them a chance to shine by hitting for power occasionally.

Players and parents are saying the ball travels faster and further when hitting with this bat.

A huge pro is the fact it’s such a cool looking bat.

Cons:
I don’t personally have any cons or complaints about this bat. Players have talked about the usual issues that arise with all bats. The one con that stood out to me was a few players who mentioned dents occurring. I believe these are isolated incidents but keep your ears open.

Top Three 2012 BBCOR Bats – The Best of the Best

There are several brand names out there who have produced some really good BBCOR bats. I had a large list to start with but it was easy to narrow it down to three.

These three are the hottest right now in my opinion they will remain the best unless something like the Marucci Black makes a big splash in the next few months.

1. Easton S3 BBCOR – BB11S3 Baseball Bat

   This bat is part of Easton’s Speed Series which is supposed to give you a light swing weights generating more bat speed. This is a -3 length to weight ratio and is a one-piece bat made from THT100™ Scandium Alloy.

2. 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR – DXCFC -3 Baseball Bat

This bat comes from DeMarini and I actually find this bat to be better than the Voodoo. Some may not agree with me but I found this bat to be a better performer. It really does have a massive sweet spot.

This bat comes in four different sizes which is standard for 2012 BBCOR bats.

It has a two-piece fully composite design made with Tri Strut TR3 composite for the barrel. It’s actually got a decent looking endcap which most bats don’t have. I know it’s all about the bat performance but some cheap looking endcaps make me look for different bats.

According to the reviews players really like the balance. They even called it a bat with “superior balance”. Because of this balance players felt as though it had better bat speed than many of the other bats on the market.

It’s also got DoubleWall barrel construction which creates a dynamic springboard hitting surface giving you a sweet spot with ball-popping trampoline effect. You can find the best price for this bat on Amazon.



3. Rawlings 5150 BBCOR – Endorsed By Major Colleges

   This Rawlings is a one-piece, 100% alloy frame bat. It’s made from Aerospace grade 5150 alloy which gives super durability, even in the most extreme playing conditions

   The best part about it is that there are a lot of major college programs endorsing this particular bat and that speaks volumes.

   I’ve watch several video testimonials from coaches and that’s why this bat is a no brainer for my top three list.

   According to player reviews this is one of the few 2012 bats that has it all. It’s got pop, balance, and an overall feel that makes you not want to put the bat down.

   The best part is that it’s a lot less in price than many of the 2012 BBCOR bats because you can get it for $199.95 with free shipping on Amazon.

Why Are These The Top Three 2012 BBCOR Bats?

I personally researched every BBCOR bat I could. I researched a ton online finding descriptions, best sellers and most importantly listening to what players, coaches and dads had to say. I really focused on video testimonials or videos in general for this post.

I narrowed it down to three and unless something changes, these will be the top 2012 BBCOR bats.

In closing, you have almost found the exact bat you want to use. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.

Take these top three bats and find the one that best suits you and your skills. Maybe you need a bat that is light, easy to swing and affordable. Maybe you need a large barrel bat with composite materials. Maybe you always had one of these three in mind but needed some affirmation.

Pros:
Even though there aren’t any reviews for this bat on Amazon I have read several things online about this bat.

One thing I’ve heard from several players is that this is the best BBCOR bat currently on the market.

Great pop, great balance, not top heavy and it’s been said it’s the best bat period for contact hitters.

I also heard players say it’s a great power bat too because it’s really light and you generate massive bat speed.

A huge pro is the fact it’s such a cool looking bat.

Cons:
I don’t have hardly anything bad to say about this bat. If I had to choose one thing I would say I’m not a fan of the small yellow section of the grip near the knob. It’s looks out of place and I’ve never heard an explanation as to why it’s designed that way.

Whatever your preference, I’m going to give you the current top three and update it should something change. I always keep my eyes and ears open to what players, coaches and dads are saying about baseball bats.

Top Three 2012 Easton BBCOR Bats – Seven To Choose From

Easton has seven BBCOR bats to choose from! That’s quite a bit and just think of all the Little League and Senior League bats they make.

I had to cut these seven bats into three and here’s what I came up with.

1. Easton S3 BBCOR – BB11S3 Baseball Bat

   This bat is part of Easton’s Speed Series which is supposed to give you a light swing weights generating more bat speed. This is a -3 length to weight ratio and is a one-piece bat made from THT100™ Scandium Alloy.

   It comes in six different sizes so there is a bat size for everyone. I am really attracted to the design and think this is one of the best looking bats overall in 2012.

   Player reviews online have said this bat is very balanced, easy to swing and produces results.

   It is covered by a 400-day warranty and you can find the best price on Amazon.



2. Easton XL2 BBCOR – BB11X2 Aluminum and Composite

This bat also comes from Easton’s Power Brigade but this one is from the XL Series. These bats have extra long barrels in the and are designed to give players expanded hitting zones and more mass in the barrel.

This bat comes in four different sizes which is two shy of the previous bat I mentioned. Not sure why this is the case.

It’s a two-piece bat made with a IMX composite handle and a THT100 aluminum barrel. Some of you out there like two-piece bats while others despise them.

Players really like the bigger barrel and the larger sweet spot. According to reviews the players they really do hit for more power with this bat versus others they have used.

It has a tapered handle with a length-to-weight ratio of -3 and you can find the best price for this bat on Amazon.



3. Easton S1 BBCOR – BB11S1 Baseball Bat

   This Easton is a two-Piece IMX™ composite bat. I find that very interesting because I thought two-piece bats had aluminum but I was wrong. This is composite and fully BBCOR certified with a -3 length to weight ratio.

   This is also from the Speed Series and has a light, balanced swing.

   It’s another great looking stick as it’s almost all black. Very intimidating. I personally like the design of this bat over the DeMarini Voodoo.

   According to player reviews this is the best BBCOR bat available. It has pop, great balance and a huge sweet spot. The only complaint was that it’s Easton’s most expensive bat currently.

   It’s got the large 2 5/8 inch barrel and even with the price high you can still find it with free shipping on Amazon.

Why Are These The Top Three 2012 Easton BBCOR Bats?

I personally researched every Easton BBCOR bat. I researched a ton online finding descriptions, best sellers and most importantly listening to what players, coaches and dads had to say.

I narrowed it down to three and unless something changes, these will be the top Easton BBCOR bats in 2012 without a doubt.

In closing, you have almost found the exact bat you want to use.

Take these top three bats and find the one that best suits you and your skills. Maybe you need a bat that is light, easy to swing and affordable. Maybe you need a large barrel bat with some bop. Maybe you need the best looking, best performing but slightly more expensive bat.

You can only find the 2012 Catalyst bat in two different versions. Senior League and Youth League.

I think that makes this bat special because I would consider it rare. The price point is a bit lower too so I would say it’s affordable.

This bat comes in five different sizes and depending on which size you get determines what price you pay. For instance, the 30 inch bat is $199.95 but the 32 inch one is $180 which is weird.

I’m a big fan of having choices. If you really like this bat and plan on purchasing one then you’ll have plenty of sizes to choose from.

This 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst -11 baseball bat is made out of C1C composite for the whole bat including the handle. It’s considered a one-piece bat.

I’m not a huge fan of tricked out graphics but this one is subtle enough but still cool looking.

The barrel is black with some white lettering and some gold and blue borders. There is some design to it as well. There is a baseball and wings.

The handle area has a neat design to it as well. It’s gold with hints of black.

The endcap is black with the Louisville Slugger logo.

The knob is gold with the company logo and length of bat.

Printed on the barrel is the USSSA stamp.

Pros:
Even though there aren’t any reviews for this bat on Amazon I have read several things online about this bat.

What I like about the comments was that it was mostly dads talking about this bat. They were very pleased with it and said their sons were hitting bombs with the bat.

One dad mentioned that this was the perfect bat for travel ball.

I personally like the design and thing the price point currently is a great deal.

Cons:
I don’t have hardly anything bad to say about this bat. The one thing I’m not a fan of is the color of the knob. It’s gold but it’s a different gold than on the barrel. It sort of stands out.

2011 was actually the first year I really started paying attention to Marucci bats. I knew by their logo that they made wood bats for pro baseball. Then I saw the Cat 5.

In 2012 I then saw the Marucci Black and by looks I have to say I was wowed.

If you thought the DeMarini Voodoo was intimidating, take another look at this bat!

The Marucci Black BBCOR is a -3 length to weight ratio baseball bat specifically created for high school and college baseball.

It actually has the BBCOR certification two places on the bat so you won’t miss it. They are actually right next to each other on the bat which I think is interesting. They really want to make sure whoever is inspecting the bat doesn’t miss it.

This bat is approved for play in 2012 and beyond.

This bat comes in only a few sizes and I’m actually surprised by it. My guess is that there’s not enough demand to create a bunch of sizes.

I believe as the 2012 season goes on there will be more sizes available.

I couldn’t believe it when I went to the sporting goods store and found one of these bats hanging in the rack. You can see it in the picture here as proof.

The bad part was that because stores are so paranoid about people stealing stuff this bat was locked, wired and cameras were pointing right at the bat section. This means I couldn’t pick it up and swing it around.

This Marucci Black BBCOR -3 baseball bat is made out of AZ3000 alloy for the Barrel and it has a composite handle. It’s considered a two-piece bat.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a real intimidating looking bat but it’s not crazy with the graphics.

The barrel is black with some white lettering and some gray lettering. That’s it!

The handle area is also black but there’s also a Marucci logo in red and some lettering in white.

The endcap is junk like on most bats as they look like they came out of a Cracker Jack box.

The knob is black with the company name, size of the bat and a little bit of white color too.

Printed on the barrel is everything you need to know about the bat specs and they even have which leagues you can use the bat in.

Pros:
I have to think that a really good pro to this bat is that you have pro baseball endorsement. Bryce Harper and Albert Pujols both put their names on this bat and that’s got to be good right?

I think the design is near the top of all 2012 bats.

I’ve read a lot about this bat and players are really excited about this bat. I didn’t hear much from parents and that kinda surprised me.

The players said they thought the bat was balanced with great pop and an easy swing.

Cons:
I heard several people saying that the paint chips after a while but don’t all bats?

The price is a bit steep at this time and a few people had concerns about this especially since Marucci isn’t as established as brands such as Easton and DeMarini to name a few.
